Shiraz Legacy



These picture are evidence of Islamic legacy in this part of Africa. They are now important touristic relics but the establishment of kaole town in Bagamoyo (above) and Kilwa Kisiwani (below) by the Shiraz over 900 years ago does also point to the fact that Islam was the first modern religion to be established here. and that Kiswahili that is now lingua franca in Kenya and Tanzania was heavily enriched by these early visitors. We shall be talking of how Islam influenced growth of arts and culture and literature.

New Islamic Head Appointed in Zanzibar

The President of Zanzibar, Dr. Ali Mohammed Shein, has appointed Sheikh Saleh Omar Kadhi new Muft for Zanzibar. The post was vancant for a about a year following the passing away of former Muft Sheikh Shikh Harith bin Kelef.
He has also appointed sheikh Khamis Haji Khamis, to be chief Qadh the deputy Qadh is sheikh Hassan Othman Ngwali
